Mon Valley - Pittsburgh East is lucky to have so many great parks and playgrounds for kids. My kids have swung, spun, and raced through many of them ... and definitely have their favorites!

Here’s a list of our family’s top five favorite parks and playgrounds in the Mon Valley - Pittsburgh East and the reasons we love them:

Valley Avenue Recreational Park

Location: 199 Caroline Ave, Monongahela, PA 15063

Features: There is a big section for the older kids and a smaller area for toddlers. It's also fenced in which gives me peace of mind as a parent.

What my kids love: There is a green merry-go-round that my kids LOVE to spin around in

What I love: This park is fenced in completely which allows me to give my kids some freedom without hovering and knowing they won't try to escape.

Richardson Park

Location: Bentleyville, PA 15314

Features: This park is amazing because it has two playgrounds. One for older kids and another on the other side of the park for little kids. There's also a couple of pavilions, a walking path, basketball / volleyball courts and a stream to go fishing!

What my kids love: My kids love the swings and being able to walk our dog on the path that goes around the soccer field. They also enjoy going into the stream!

What I love: No matter where you are in the park, you have a perfect view of your kids playing. I can easily keep an eye on them while letting them be independent and play on their own.

North Belle Vernon Community Bank Park

Location: 725 Graham St, Belle Vernon, PA 15012

Features: This park has so many amazing features that almost any family would enjoy! From having a dek hockey rink, soccer/football field, multiple play areas AND they even have wheelchair accessible swings!

What my kids love: There's one swing on the swing set that both my older son who is 4 and my youngest who is 10 months old was able to share together. When it was time to eat, there's a pavilion off to the corner that has the perfect view of the entire park.

What I love: This park is amazing because while the kids are playing at the playground or in the dek hockey rink with my husband, I can use the equipment next to the main playground for exercising! There's something for everyone in your family at this park.

Elementary Park

Location: 2 Florence Dr #98, Charleroi, PA 15022

Features: Along with the huge playground, there are pavilions to eat at or rent out for any occasion. There is also a baseball field.

What my kids love: Their playground has many different things for kids to climb on and interact with.

What I love: The pavilion is directly next to the playground so it allows me to keep an eye on my kids while they are playing.

Boyce Park

Location: 675 Old Frankstown Road Pittsburgh, PA 15239

Features: These features I list below are from the Allegheny County website because this park has so much to offer!

  • 3Bs Action Park (Boards/Bikes/Blades)
  • Archery
  • Ballgames
  • Basketball
  • Carpenter Log House
  • Meadows
  • Nature Center
  • Playground
  • Skiing, Snowboarding and Snowtubing
  • Tennis
  • Trails
  • Wave Pool

What my kids love: Besides the obvious of the playground, my kids love the wave pool!

What I love: Ever since before my husband and I were married, we'd go on the trails in Boyce Park with our dogs.
